Mysore, Oct 16: Director-General of Administrative Training Institute (ATI) Rashmi V Mahesh was attacked by some relatives of an employee who was found dead in a sump inside the ATI premises on Wednesday.

Venkatesh (53) a gazetted manager is the person deceased.

Venkatesh’s body was discovered in a sump near Kabini hostel in the morning. Some relatives of Venkatesh and ATI employees connected the death to the alleged irregularities at the ATI. The incident led to tension at the ATI when this group talked holding Rashmi responsible for Venkatesh’s death.

Venkatesh’s body was brought to the ATI premises in the afternoon. Rashmi, who came there, was prevented from paying last respects by a gathering of around 25 people and was physically assaulted. While she was trying to console the grieving family members, some people slapped her and pelted stones at her. A person also tried to hit Rashmi with a slipper.
Manjula the wife of the deceased has blamed the differences between former director-general of ATI, Amita Prasad, and Rashmi for Venkatesh’s death.

Some sources said that Venkatesh committed suicide, as it was not possible for a person to slip into a sump with an opening of only 2.5 feet x 2.5 feet.

A case of unnatural death has been registered at Nazarbad police station.

    Goons! No one can ever point fingers at Rashmi...an honest and upright IAS officer, often been transferred because she is not at the beck and call of the ruling class. If I have not mistaken this lady has been transferred about 24 times in the last 18 years...yet she hasn't compromised with honesty. Today's attack seems to have been well orchestrated by vested interests. Rashmi has already exposed the 100 crore scam in ATI which in turn has sent shivers down the spines of the corrupt officials and their godfathers in the political circles. Imagine corruption in the Administrative Training Institute itself. So those who learn about corruption during their training, can they ever be honest? It's govt's duty to protect offers like Rashmi who are society's assets. I really hope that perpetrators of today's attack are brought to the books soon.

    2. Her fault- Only because she was strict??
    The thugs should be brought to book.
    This should never have been allowed to happen in the first place. What on earth is happening in Karnataka?

    Rashmi is known as a very strict IAS officer- tried to reform PU board and also KEA - got transferred from there. Must have unearthed some irregularities in her new post.
