Udupi: Suspension of medical officer – meeting decides to hold protest

Udupi, Oct 16: A meeting held at the auditorium of Hotel Kediyoor here on Wednesday October 15 decided to hold protest demonstration with the participation of general public beginning on October 19, in protest against suspension of medical officer of blood bank attached to the district hospital, Dr Sharathkumar, not holding any inquiry against him thereafter, and not reinstating him.

A procession will be taken out from Gandhi Katte near the bus stand here at 11 am on October 19. If the administration of district hospital permits, a camp for holding demonstration within its premises will be pitched. Otherwise, the protest demonstration will be held near Gandhi Katte near Ajjarkad. William Martis, T Bhaskar Rai from Brahmavar, and advoate, Manohar Bhandarkar, will lead the protestors.

The meeting also decided to launch a campaign of sending SMS messages against human rights violations to state health minister, U T Khadar, and chief secretary in the department, Shivashailam. A decision to file public interest litigation under Rights to Information Act against causing loss to the exchequer by keeping the medical officer under suspension by paying 90 percent pay without entrusting any work to him, and also demanding to hold a detailed investigation into the laboratory scam at the district hospital.

Several leaders like Baikady Suprasad Shetty, Janani Diwakar Shetty, Mahabala Kundar, Indrali Jayakar Shetty, K M Udupa, Cyril Walter Pinto, Diwakar Kharvi Kundapur, Dr K Satish Kamath, and others participated. It was compered by psychiatrist, Dr P V Bhandary.
