Kasargod, Oct 16: A person who arrived by Air India Express flight from Dubai at Karipur international airport in Kozhikode was arrested by air customs officials on Wednesday October 15, after finding that he was carrying 87.5 sovereigns (700 grams) of gold coins without disclosing it.

The passenger concerned has been identified as P K Abdul Khader (29), resident of Bendichal in Chengala in the district. He had hidden the gold coins inside his anus, customs officials said.

The customs officials did not find anything fishy when they checked his bags. However, they intensified checking after growing suspicious about his movements, and found out the truth. During interrogation, Khader confessed that he had smuggled gold into the country even in the past through Mumbai international airport by concealing gold in his anus, it is gathered.

The value of gold so confiscated has been estimated at Rs 20 lac.
