Mangalore, Oct 19: SDM Law College, Center for PG Studies and Research in Law in collaboration with Advanced Center for Research Development and Training in Cyber Laws and Forensics[ACRDTCLF] and National Law School of India University, Bangalore organized one day training programme and workshop on 'Cyber Law and Cyber Security' here in SDM law college here on Sunday October 19.
After inaugurating, Dr R Venkata Rao, Vice Chancellor of National Law School of India University, Bangalore in his address said " Can we solve the 21th century problem with 20th century mindset and with 19th century tools?, Today's knowledge in fast changing world is becoming tomorrow's ignorance. A person is illiterate, if he doesn't learn, unlearn and relearn. Learning is a continuous accessory."
"The process of learning, unlearning and relearning begins when we encounter challenges in our respective professions. The first principle on criminal which was taught to me on those days was that crime is basically against the person's body or against the property in which offender knows to whom he is causing the offence. But, today that concept is outdated because the offender doesn't know to whom he is causing the offence in Cyber crime. It is world of anonymity. Each individual will be the victim of computer cyber crime knowingly or unknowingly as a result of greed. Law cannot stop human greed but Law can instigate the character. Work with courage, conviction, commitment, devotion, dedication and determination. You can achieve anything." he added.
Dr P D Sebastian, Principal of SDM Law College said " We can see the rise in the misuse of technology. Important departments of commercial institutions fear about hacking problem. In present scenario, it is not war with gun or bullets but it is with the technology. In present technology, a person sitting in any part of world can read and know your information. It is necessary for various departments, especially our investigating agencies to be equipped with modern technologies so as to deal with the criminal tendencies. Cyber crime is like a cancer. It can attack any bank account, personal details and institutional data. It also leads to stealing information, erasing information or defacing information. Agencies, judiciary, legal and technological department should be ready with latest technology. Internet criminals have also started to use modern technology. Law, policies and regulation should be evolved to make it tough for the offenders."
Professor Vidyashankar T welcomed the guests and gave an overview of the programme. Dr Nagarathna, Cheif Investigator of ACRDTCLF proposed the vote of thanks.
