Mangalore: MCF employees demand restoration of urea production

Mangalore, Oct 21: Employees of Mangalore Chemicals and Fertilizers (MCF) organized a protest demanding the restoration of urea production at MCF here on Tuesday October 21.

Speaking to the media, K N Suryanarayana, president of MCF Mangala Workers' Union said, "We have already submitted a memorandum to the Chief Minister and union minister to restore the urea production in the plant. The unit was producing 1,200 metric tones per day, but the production has been stopped from the past 21 days. It has caused several crores of loss to the company. If the company is closed, livelihood of several families will be affected."

Shivananda, member of farmer's association said, "Farmers are used to Mangal fertilizers. It is a good quality fertilizer. If the government does not restore the plant, we will hold a protest throughout the state."

    Dear friends.
    It is true m.c.f.should resume its production.but what about management.Do you think present management is capable to run m.c.f.There is no employees satisfied in the company.there is no welfare scheme for employees.this company is running more than 30 years and under u.b.group 20years.what they contributed society.all companys profit is diverted to u.b.group.no expsnsion projects.Heavy loan on company with intrest burdon.somebody should save copmany from u.b.group.otherwise oneday m.c.f.become another kingfisher airline.

    21 days of losso in production is huge.The damage to the parts will also be quite high and costs to reset and restart also huge. All are aware that the main reason for the current shutdown of MCF is due to the switch over issue from Naptha to Gas. Also the fact that currently the ownership issue seems to have taken steam and one can expect a good takeover very soon. A very strong representation needs to be made to the Centre for special grace time to continue production for a year using Naptha despite the higher cost and also at the same time ensure that a Gas pipeline comes up in quick time. The next season will see a acute shortfall of Urea and complex fertilsers in the State of Karnataka if concerted efforts are not taken on a war footing. The thousands of workers as well and many families depending on the ancillary Industries will also suffer if this only major fertiliser unit in Karnataka is not rescued from the current crisis. MCF has always been having issues and problems in the past and has been lucky to survive and overcome every obstacle in it's path. We the well wishers of this company are sure that this crisis will also pass off and Mangala will prosper and the workers, Officers and Marketing staff will again be back to the field and it will be business as usual.

    Our local leaders,whatever party, are busy with inaugurations of new flats etc,or are in Delhi ,Bangalore,doing what god knows?!!.they are the ones who have to bring this issue to the central and state govts attn.,and protect local jobs and industry.
