Karkala, Oct 24: A life threat was allegedly meted out to Right to Information act activist from Mala gram panchayat development official when he refused to sign a document in Karkala, here on Friday, October 24.

A case has been registered in rural police station with regard to the incident.

Hariprasad, a resident of Belthangadi Irvathaya is the complainant. Mala gram panchayat development officer Sudhakar Shetty is the alleged accused.

Hariprasad had gone to the gram panchayat office on October 20 to pay the fees for asking certain information under right to information act. PDO Sudhakar Shetty asked him to sign a book. When Hariprasad refused to sign, Sudhakar Shetty demanded that he returned the receipt and get out, failing which he would not spare him. He also allegedly threatened to kill him, stated the complaint.

On the other hand, Sudhakar Shetty has also lodged a complaint at Karkala rural police station stating that Hariprasad had obstructed while conducting his official duties. It was not rare that a complainant became an accused here.

On the whole, recurrence of such incidences due to lack of understanding, have become common in Karkala.

Really it was lack of understanding or has to do something else?no one gives a life threat when one refuses to sign. Before forwarding a book to sign,he should have explained what he has to sign.and how come Hariprasad got the bill in advance before signing?what is there going on?what Mr shetty complains of Hariprasad is obstructing from conducting official dutys. For example?such a nonsense .One should not put on the poor citizen when officials fail intheir dutys.and life threat for what?(was any Money spoken ?)
