Moodbidri: Siddantha Mandir theft case - Prime accused Das gets bail

Moodbidri, Oct 25: The prime accused in the Siddantha Mandir theft case, Santhosh Das has secured bail today. The district sessions court granted bail paving the way for the release of Santhosh Das also known as Ghanshyam.

The famous Siddantha Mandir theft had taken place on July 6, 2013. On July 13, the police had arrested Deepthi, wife of Santhosh Das and Digambar Mohanty, his father in law in Odisha. Santhosh Das was arrested 22 days later.

The Mandir lies next to Guru Basadi in Moodbidri. The theft involved 15 idols, the value of which has not yet been properly ascertained, but is believed to be in crores.

23 cases were filed against Santhosh Das after the arrest in the the state. Advoacte Nagesh Sheety D represented him. Santosh Das has been already discharged in 15 cases. 8  cases still remain.

1 case in Mangalore, 1 case in Kundapur, 1 case in Karkal,1 case in Mudigere,2 cases in Moodbidri and  2 in Kumta are the pending cases against Santosh Das for which he has secured bail now.

The other accused Deepthi and Digambar Mohanty had already secured bails earlier.

    Most of the accused gets bail due to connivance of prosecution with defendents thus weakning the case.

    The bail law should be scrapped and instead made into :
    "Bail can not be granted until the culprit proves himself innocent"

    It sounds dubious, every case, whether serious or less, either anticipatory or some other bail is arranged. In cases involving Politicians\ministers and the likes - anticipatory bails and many other bails within a week or so after arrest.
    Something definitely fishy and the accounts\lifestyle of the judiciary\family should be checked.
    If one watches the hindi serial on Star plus "Ek Hasina Thi" can get a good idea as to how cases are twisted to make guilty to innocent and who are all involved in accepting bribes\and plant evidence to arrest the innocent.
    Everything revolves on the amount of money\or things in kind are paid to the authorities.

    OUR COURTS ARE VERY MUCH INTERESTED IN PROTECTING CRIMINALS WITH THE BAIL TECHNOLOGY. COURT JUDGES ARE HAND IN GLOVE WITH ADVOCATES WHO REPRESENTS CRIMINALS THUS MAKING A MOCKERY OF DEMOCRACY IN INDIA.

    So many cases and still bail for him, mera bharat mahan. Why was he absconding for 22 days, in this case cops should have given such beating that he should have turned black and blue. See the number of cases, old habit hard to die, full family is involved in theft cases. O God please send your blessing on these robbers.

    This is the problem of Indian law. Police arresting the culprits with great difficulties, but court releasing them on bail. Criminals not scared of law, they will continue their profession.

    This is where the criminals gets encouragement. Accused of 73 cases gets a bail looks strange to me. I think there is lot more research and amendment is required in law. Instead of school book amendments the central govt. should give priority to bail amendment and related laws.
