Puttur: Close shave for passengers as Bus-tanker collide at Shiradi ghat

Puttur, Oct 26: In an accident, a bus collided head on with a tanker in the middle of Shiradi ghat, here on Sunday, October 26 afternoon.

A private SRS bus was plying towards Bangalore from Mangalore which collided with a tanker coming from Bangalore towards Mangalore.






The tanker fell in the gorge after hitting the bus.

Fortunately, the drivers and passengers escaped with minor injuries.

    Actually I was travelling behind this ill fated SRS bus lagging by 15 minutes,the road blocked for 1.5 hrs due to the accident.The plight of Shiradi ghat is horrible,God only should save the lives of the people travelling in this ghat.The government is deaf,and not giving any attention towards the asphalting of the badly damaged roads.

    Why blame the road condition ? Possible, the driver was plying (flying) with high speed. Ghat section and still haste. I think the tanker was (empty) coming to Mangalore to collect fuel !

    I passed that section yesterday when coming back from Mangalore to Bangalore. These tankers seldom drive rash, esp., in the ghat section. The road conditions are to be blamed to certain extent too since that is one of the reason why vehicles swerve and come to the right to avoid huge pot holes. Not that these buses are disciplined in their driving but there are both of these factors to consider.

    These huge vehicle drives are B@$T4rd$. last month i had a very close shave with one of the trucks s these guys always use high beam at night rendering the opposite vehicle drives partially blind.

    where ever possible for long journey try to go by trains more safety rather than bus or self drive , chances of more risk any time during the long drive .travel by safe modes of travelling.

    people dont follow the basic driving rules.many heavy vehicle drivers have least idea what is the ideal speed to drive at an conjusted junction,at an bend and in an over crowded area.a fact they use the same speed 70 kmph at all the locations.and the result!! very surprising how they could get a driving license.

    Ghats!For a Driver to come out safe from this place is always a happy act.and for passengers is also a double way to be happy.One will not Forget travelling in this way.Nowadays the traffic has so much increased,that no way to return,turn,or in emergency to escape from this place.when some Drivers are driving so harsh,on this way,I think sometimes do they not fear about their life.Thank God here tanker remained safe.One way,roads are necessary for Transport,other side with all buses ,cars passing through the forest,natur will be suffering .and cant imagine when big accident happens as fire breaksout,what it can be for People,and nature.Hope our Drivers will realize this in future atleastand drive carefully.we Need not ask our Ministers about doing something about it.They may not know where Ghats are.

    drivers will never learn. This is India. Please provide better roads. 25 kms per day as promised bu our hon. minister Mr. Nitin Gadakari who is busy in Maharashtra.

    It is not reported yet regarding the details of the accident. However it is time that we ensure the safety of the passengers. In this context it is expedient that all the drivers are provided total training before entrusting a bus in their hands. With regard to trucks too it is very necessary that they are provided thorough training ... In every case the drivers should be tested for their driving skills from time to time

    This is time we start thinking different for better. The jobless and rejected at last chose to become drivers. Why not dignify this profession ? I don't say elevate them to Pilot, but its true, the same precious lives on flight that gets most of the Safety norms addressed, miserably miss Road Safety. They offer their life voluntarily in the hands of driving force, who do not possess any safe attitude.
    Time to think. Can we not train these men and offer better prospect who take care of us when we sleep like a baby on wheels ?
    These can be included under JOC ( Job oriented course ), after matriculation. This is the way to get "Trained and certified Drivers", who are basically literate and not alcoholic on duty

    God is great..thank god a major tragedy was thwarted by divine force.

    Last week a SRS travels Bus met an accident with another bus(Head on collusion)in PERINJE(my native place) ...fortunately no major injuries.So SRS travel's drivers should be cautioned.
