Belgaum: Two young sisters drown in a pond

Belgaum, Oct 27: Two sisters drowned in a pond in Kerur village near Chikkodi of Belgaum district on Sunday morning.

The girls are identified as Surekha (13) and Mangala (12).

Both the deceased girls went to the farm of their father Neelappa Kamble with their brother Sagar aged 10.

When collecting water from the pond, the younger girl slipped on the marshy banks and fell into the pond. The elder sister who tried to rescue the younger also fell into the pond. With no elder persons around, the sisters could not be saved.

It is said that the pond away from the house was full of water due to heavy rains.

Ankali police visited the spot and registered a case.
