Kasargod, Oct 27: A CPM DYFI activist was ambushed and murdered at Seetangoli here on Monday October 27 evening.

The deceased has been identified as Kumble Shanthipalla resident P Murali(35). He was allegedly hacked to death with a deadly weapon.

The victim was travelling in an auto rickshaw with a friend when an unidentified group waylaid them, pulled out Murali from the auto and attacked him before fleeing the spot.

The locals, who saw Murali struggling for life, rushed him to Kumble government hospital. Murali died on the way to the hospital.

It is suspected that it was a pre-meditated murder. CPM has called for a strike in Manjeshwar and Kasargod Taluk protesting against the murder tomorrow. The strike will be held from 6 am to 6 pm.

A tense situation prevailed near Kumble after the news. Buses have stopped operating. Shops have closed their shutters.

District police head, Thomson Jose and senior police officials visited the place and are taking further action.

The CPM has alleged that BJP had a hand in the murder.
