Mangalore, Oct 29: The department of Journalism in the government of Karnataka has selected Mangalore Akashvani programme executive, Dr Sadananda Perla for the Development Journalism award for the year 2013.
Perla has been working in Akashvani, Mangalore since 2010. He has worked in Gulbarga Akashvani for 16 years. He had written first research essay on Kasargod Kannada struggle on Pro Kannada movement in Kasargod. He had conducted hundreds of programmes conducive to development during his service.
He entered journalism by being an assistant editor and reporter in 'Prathisurya', evening daily from Kasargod in 1989. He was appointed as assistant editor and reporter in Samyukta Karnataka daily from Bangalore in 1992. He joined as Akashvani programme Executive in 1994.
He has been instrumental in broadcasting several useful programmes in radio. Being an author and columnist, his writings in Margadarshi monthly magazine are published in the form of a book. Perla has produced a number of programmes like 'flood affected during northern Karnataka', dairy development-series, feature on after flood in Northern Karnataka, Self employment scheme for Naxalites, feature on "Bhanamati"(Superstition) etc.
He was born in Perla village in Kasargod district, Kerala. He is the son of Manappa Poojari and Radamma. His wife Pramila M K is the deputy commissioner of Mangalore Corporation.They have two sons Shreyank and Pranjal.
