Mangalore, Oct 30: A woman got electrocuted after unknowingly stepping on a live wire that had fallen across her path near her home on Wednesday October 29. Thereafter, angry locals took employees of Mangalore Electricity Supply Company (Mescom) to task, blaming them of negligence.

Lata Shetty (45), a resident of Manchavudadi in Pavoor village near Ullal was walking towards the agricultural fields located adjacent to her home for grazing cows, when she accidentally came in contact with live electrical cable that had fallen across green grass. She was unaware of the fact that death was lurking in the area, as the cable that was hidden inside grass was not visible.

This area has been frequently witnessing incidents of electric wires getting snapped after coming in contact with tree branches, the locals said. About three months back, a boy named Rajhik from Kandiga area here had lost his life when he visited a neighbouring house for bringing milk, and in this process, inadvertently walking on a fallen cable.

Several villagers joined together and upbraided Mescom employees who visited the spot to take stock of the situation and take up necessary measures, accusing them of causing deaths and injuries through careless attitude. A report about this unnatural death was filed in Konaje police station.

Lata Shetty is survived by husband and two sons.
