Udupi, Oct 31:Inauguration and blessing of Goretti Convent of SRA sisters was held at Santekatte , Kallianpur on 30 Oct 2014.
Dr Gerald Isac Lobo,Bishop of Udupi Diocese celebrated the Eucharistic celebration along with Fr Chethan Lobo, Editor of Uzwad Konkani Monthly , Fr John Mendonca, Fr Stany B Lobo of Kallianpur Deanary, Fr Valerian Mendonca, Chancellor of Udupi Diocese, Fr Philip Neri Aranha, parish priest of Mount Rosary Kallianpur and other priests from Udupi Diocese.
Sr Nanditha Pereira, Superior general from Austria inaugurated and Dr Gerald Isaac Lobo Bishop of Udupi Diocese blessed the new Convent. After the Eucharistic celebration, the stage programme was held.
Rev Dr Gerald Isac Lobo addressing the gatherings appreciated the SRA sisters for their services rendeerd to the poor and needy. "They also offer other services like education to the poor children and health services.Let us work together for the betterment of the Maria Goretti Hospital and its services.” the Bishop said.
The Bishop on behalf of Udupi Diocese thanked the Superior of SRA Sisters for their approval to build retried priest home in their premises.
Udupi MLA Pramod Madhwaraj, in his speech, said that Udupi Diocese has developed significantly on the leadership of Rev Dr Gerald Isac Lobo. He said if this continues, Udupi Diocese would become the “Best Diocese in India”.
Madhwaraj also said taht nuns who live a hard life are blessed by God for their efforts. He sanctioned Rs 50 Lacs from the government on the occasion to improve the road to the hospital and also to render the help to the hospital on his behalf.
Engineer & other persons who helped in the construction of the new convent were felicitated on the occasion by the Bishop and Sr. Nanditha.
Cultural programmes were later presented by the students.
Fr Stany B Lobo of Kallianpur Deanery, Fr Philip Neri Aranha, Parish Priest of Mount Rosary Church, Kallianpur,Jerry Vincent Dias, Vice President of Parish Council, Satish Nayak, President of Kallianpur Gram Panchayat, SRA Congregation Advisor Sr Cynthia, Sr Joyce, Goretti Hospital Administrator, Sr Lora Rodrigues, Convent Superior, Dr R N Bhat among others were present.
Sr Zeena, Provincial Supireior of SRA Sisters Community welcomed the gathering.
