Madikeri, Nov 3: A student of an engineering college from Hassan fell to her doom while on a visit to Mallall waterfalls near Somwarpet during an excursion with classmates on Sunday November 2.

Tejaswi from Turuvekere had arrived at Somwarpet in the district with about 20 of her college friends at about 8.30 am on Sunday. The crowd then left for visiting the picturesque Mallali Waterfalls in the taluk.

Reportedly, Tejaswi reached the bottom of the falls with several other students. When posing for photograph by standing on the edge of a boulder next to the gushing water, she slipped. As her helpless classmates looked on, Tejaswim who lost her balance, was dragged by the water that was running down at great force, and taken to abysmal depths. The friends, who went through an experience for which they were never prepared, were unable to do anything, and walked up about two km to the gate to the falls and conveyed information to locals.

Somwarpet police were informed thereafter, and several people tried to locate Tejaswi by scouting through the area. A team led by Chandru from Mandya, helped by locals, succeeded in recovering the body of the deceased student in the evening.

Nandeesh Kumar, station house officer of Somwarpet station, visited the spot, questioned the students, and registered case of unnatural death.
