Mangaluru, Nov 3: In a shocking incident, a dead baby rat was found in the Everest Kasuri Methi pack bought by a customer at Thodar, Moodbidri.

The packet was bought about a week ago. When it was opened on Monday November 3, the dried up dead baby rat was found in the powder.

The Mumbai-based Everest company’s packet states that it belongs to batch No E-1463.

The packet, priced at Rs 79, was packed on September 4, 2014. The expiry date was mentioned as May 15, 2015.

Negligence while packing the product has been blamed for the incident.

    Dear All,

    On behalf of Everest Spices i would like to add that we have inspected the history and records of the entire batch E-1463 of the Kasuri Methi, Also we have inspected the batches at distributor and shop level, and not even a single pack has any sort of impurity.

    Our Analysis have confirmed that there is no possibility of a Rat entering into the packing machine or the pack. The body of the rat looks fresh and is not possible for the dead body to sustain in such condition for 2 months post packaging.
    Also if the rat would have gone through the packaging machine it would have shredded into pieces . It is impossible for the rat to remain in one piece.

    The company operates a state-of-the-art facility, which is considered as one of the best spice plants in the world.

    The company strongly defends such accusation, which can endanger the confidence of all our stakeholders.

    Possible reasons for such misleading press releases are under investigation.

    Everest stands for Taste and Purity since it's inception and will continue to do so.

    Under congress government, worst days prevailing in karnataka. There are many instances where govt sponsored incidents / programmes to target one particular community.

    For instance a drama of blackmailing a math seer, false allegation of church attacks on hindus and communal harmony provoking staements from ministers etc.

    Looks like, home/chief minister not at all serious about on child/women protection.
    They are busy chanting RSS, VHP, Bajarang Dal mantra in each and every conference while at the same time, tacitly approving all anti-communal activities by other religious orgranizations.

    I have brought Kasuri Methi and its well dried, but this one looks like its a few days old, secondly the rat seems to be godly or divine, no sign of decay, maybe we can put it up for exposition.
    Looks like the work of some unhappy employee or a competitor.

    If it was a cockroach, there is a reason to believe. Such a big rat goes unnoticed while packing? Some foul play cannot be ruled out just to spoil company name.

    If this was packed on Sept 4,i.e. 2 months ago, I would assume the rat to be in lot worse condition than the above picture suggests. The dead rat doesn't look decayed. Looks like it died few days back.

    It could be a intentional act from disgruntled employee. Rat is not so small to go unnoticed while packing. I am sure the person who opened the packet was ready to climb the Everest with fear.

    Very difficult to prove in the court that it was inside the packet. The company will argue that it might have been purposely put by the complainant for claiming damages.

    Rats are common in Bombay!! After changing name as Mumbai... it should not happen!! Same with B'lore and M'lore!!!! You need to be vigilant and goo QC/QA should be in place!! Lack of Performance appraisal may result such situation!! Who's fathers what gone!!! (a crude tulu translation)!! Part of Everest sale is gone for a SIX!!
