Dubai, Nov 5: In a laudable effort to promote Konkani music in the Gulf, Little Flowers Mukamar (LFM), an association of parishioners of Mukamar (under Udupi diocese) spread across the UAE, has instituted the unique 'Desert Konkani Music Awards' for Konkani music albums, singers and lyricists who reside in the Gulf and create or support Konkani music.
As there are a good number of Konkani music composers, singers and lyricists residing in the Gulf, LFM instituted the awards with an aim to encourage them to produce more albums and spread the fragance of Konkani music not only around the Gulf but all over the world.

The awards, first announced four months ago on daijiworld.com, are exclusively for Gulf-based artistes basically from South Canara and Udupi districts' Konkani speaking denominations residing in the Gulf during the release of their albums.
Now, LFM has announced the top three final nominees in four categories.
From among the numerous applications/nominations received from all the GCC countries, the judges, after careful scrutiny and much deliberation, shortlisted the top three nominees in the following categories:
Best Lyricist: Late George Pinto, Aikal (Kuwait); Wilfred R Pangla, (Oman); and Arthur Pereira, Omzoor (UAE).
Best Singer Female: Rovina D’Souza (UAE); Preema D'Souza (UAE), and Nirmala Goveas (Oman).
Best Singer Male: Rony D’Cunha (Kuwait); Apolinaris D’Souza, (Oman); and Rathan Castelino,) (UAE)
Best Music Album: Vincent Fernandes, UAE (Album: Mogachi Lahran Vol-07); Gratian D’Souza, Kuwait (Album: Swapna Sundari); Lancy Henry Moras, KSA (Album: Milan Mogachen).
The top three nominees in all the four categories will be honoured during Little Flowers Mukamar's fourth anniversary on November 14 at India Club, Oud Metha Road, Dubai.
The winner of the best music album will receive a memento and also the 'Little Flower Desert Konkani Music Award'. The Award carries a cash purse of INR 25,000.
The winners under the best lyricist, best female singer and best male singer categories will each get a cash prize of Rs 10,000 and memento.
Speaking to daijiworld, newly elected president of LFM Stephen Nazareth said, "The last one decade could well be called as the spring time of Konkani music. A number of popular, up-and-coming artistes and musicians have stormed into the Konkani music world with new experiments, innovation and quality.
"There are many musicians in the Gulf, who, despite being away from hometown have regularly contributed to the Konkani music world in their own unique way," he added.
The programme will be hosted by Dubai's well-known, charming and dynamic pair of comperes Dony Correa and his wife Asha Correa.
