Mangaluru: Crack in railway track – trains movement becomes slack

Daijiworld Media Network – Mangaluru (SP)

Mangaluru, Nov 6: After cracks were detected in the railway tracks between Padil and Thokur railway stations here, movement of trains remained disturbed the entire day on Tuesday November 4, it is learnt.

It is common for railway tracks to develop cracks due to wild variations in climatic conditions. After cracks were detected, trains were asked to move slowly. Even though railway mechanics took corrective steps and set the defect right, speed of trains continued to be regulated in that stretch. Railway sources said that many trains moved one to two hours behind schedule on that day due to this problem.

The railway department said the problem stands addressed. As Konkan railway section has a single track with double tracks on both ends, pressure of trains is more on this stretch, and even minor disturbances cause train delays for several hours, it is said.
