DK stands tall in state in bank accounts campaign

Mangaluru, Nov 7: Under Pradhan Mantri Jan-Dhan Yojana (PMJDY), Dakshina Kannada district is the first district in the state to have at least one Basic Savings Bank Deposit (BSBD) account for all families.

Announcing this to press persons on Friday, Deputy commissioner A.B Ibrahim said ''Banks in our district opened over 1.64 lac accounts during the campaign. According to the 2011 census, the district has over 4.39 lac households and at least one in the family now has a bank account."


The campaign started on August 28, 2014 in the district. Around 25 banks actively took part in this campaign.

As per the guidelines of department of financial service, banks are required to cover each and every household with a minimum of one bank account by January 26, 2015.

A.B Ibrahim also said that, this achievement will be officially declared after it is approved by State Level Implementation Committee of PMJDY.

    This is due to contributions of pioneers of banking, biz and edu which are copycat'd by others decades later to make money. Now those tribals, fishermen woken up and crying hoarse with language,state issue

    I personally know families who don t have accounts.i m sure there are many more I have given them jan dhan forms , I guess real figure would be 95% of families have accounts so far. but lot of duplication has happened during campaign which could not be avoided.
