UP to promote shoe industry


Agra, Nov 8 (IANS): The Uttar Pradesh government is determined to promote Agra's shoe industry, Chief Minister Akhilesh Yadav said.

Yadav was here to open the 8th edition of "Meet At Agra", a fair of the leather shoe industry.

He said his government was determined to promote the shoe industry which he added should adopt "competition with innovation" strategy in a highly competitive market and endeavour to attract foreign capital.

The industry was vital for the state as it generated lots of revenue and provided jobs to lakhs of skilled workers, the chief minister said.

The shoe industry had also given Agra a new sense of identity along with tourism, he said.
