Varanasi, Jun 28: The Government Railway Police (GRP) in Varanasi have arrested a man for impersonating a Travelling Ticket Examiner (TTE) and duping passengers by selling fake train tickets. The accused, identified as Adarsh Jaiswal, hails from Atraila in Madhya Pradesh’s Rewa district and is a BTech graduate.
According to officials, Jaiswal was arrested following multiple complaints of fraud. A fake East Central Railway ID card and a TTE apron were recovered from his possession. During questioning, the accused revealed that he had faked the TTE identity in a desperate attempt to convince his parents to approve his marriage.

“He loved a woman and wanted to marry her, but his parents insisted he secure a job first. That’s when he decided to pose as a TTE,” said Varanasi GRP Inspector Rajaul Nagar.
Investigations revealed that Jaiswal had created the fake ID card at a cyber café in his village in March. He used the identity to gain passengers’ trust and sold them fake tickets.
In one such instance, he sold a fake ticket marked 'B-3' on the Janta Express to two passengers, Jyoti Kiran and Gungun, for a journey from Varanasi to Laksar. Upon arriving at the station, they discovered there was no coach B-3 on the train. Suspicious, Jyoti’s brother approached railway officials and filed a complaint.
In another case, Jaiswal sold a ticket to Mumbai to one Dinesh Yadav. However, inconsistencies in the travel details raised suspicion, leading to an argument over the fare.
“He used to fabricate tickets and mislead passengers,” said Inspector Nagar. A case has been registered, and further investigation is ongoing.
