'Do not make corruption a way of life'

Udupi, Nov 8: Prime Minister of Sri Lanka D M Jayaratne graced the 19th convocation of Manipal University, held at KMC greens, Manipal, here on Saturday, November 8.

In his convocation address, Jayaratne said that Sri Lanka has the longest historical and bilateral links with India. "Education is the key ingredient in character building and socio-economic transformation. The convocation day not only means the end of your academic life but also the beginning of your future journey into professionalism. Learning thus continues even at the work place. Learning has no end."

He also informed that his daughter graduated from Manipal University.

"Education empowers human capital to be a major constructive force to ensure growth of the economy of the world. Positive attitude should be instilled in students so that social problems of humanity could be addressed," he added.

The PM also advise the students, "If your work is not guided by morality and ethics, your success will have no value. Do not make corruption a way of life and have faith in the strength of will power and determination. He appreciated the achievements of Manipal University in education sector.

Banmali Agrawal, president and CEO was honoured as the most distinguished alumnus by Chancellor.

Postgraduates: Sanchari Basu Mallik (M Pharm), Hannah Smiles Javvaji (MS Communication), Paluri Venkata Aditya (MS Information Science) and Ashish Viswanath Prakash (MBA).

It was a happy occasion for all the students and their families. They were seen joyously clicking photos with their certificates. More than 5,000 received their degrees.

Suma Nair, director, Student affair, PLN Rao registrar evaluation, K Ranarayan, vice-chancellor, H Vinod Bhat, Pro-vice chancellor, GK Prabhu and others were present.

The programme began with the National Anthem. S H Ballal welcomed the gathering. Dr Ramdas Pai, chancellor declared the convocation open. Daphne V Santhosh compered.

    Dear friend...I have a huge repsect for Dr Tonse Madhav Ananth Pai and his family members..What you said is correct "Brahma"..appropriate word..Without them Manipal is only a village..Now Manipal is considered as International Village of the World..Thanks to the efforts of Dr.T.M.A.Pai and family members..

    don`t you all think UPA has to share major share of this word of praise indirectly by SRI LANKAN P.M. ? OR WHETHER NAMO HAS TO TAKE THIS CREDIT ?

If answer is PM..then, I respect his custom & simplicity...If answer is Chairman..then I respect his funny of communicating to the next person...and making me laugh...!!

    Delighted to see Sri Lankan Prime Minister in my home town..But I am totally confused after seeing pic no.8 from bottom.. why did Sri Lankan PM bow down to student ?
