Mangalore, Nov 5: Senior Konkani writer, journalist, publisher, novelist, poet and story-writer Jerome Cyril Viegas, known in literary circles as 'Sirivant' died in sleep at his residence near Pumpwell here in the early hours of Sunday, November 5, according to family sources. He was 67.

He was a multifarious literary genius, having run "Kannik" fortnightly for many years and owned 'Sallak Publications' which had published scores of Konkani books, known for clean and quality literary content.

He had won the Daiji Dubai Award in 2002 and also 'Sandesha' award for his contribution to Konkani literature.

Because of his refusal to compromise with quality in printing and publication he was not a financial success.

Yet the books, almost a hundred in number,  brought out by him during the letterpress age, much before DTP and offset printing became the order of the day, speak volumes of his principles, commitment and dedication.
