Mangalore, Nov 6: The government will upgrade more than fourteen state-run students' hostels in the district, said district in-charge minister B Nagaraj Shetty.

He was speaking at the foundation stone laying ceremony of the new building of post-metric girls' hostel of the department for backward classes here on Sunday November 5.

Funds will be made available for the fourteen hostels to be shifted to new buildings over the next two years. Currently, the hostels are located in rented buildings.

Four new hostels will also come up this year, he said. The facilities and infrastructure in the existing hostels will be upgraded and the government will look in to the complaints filed against malpractices in development works in the hostels, he added.

He also said that the government will form committees at the local level to monitor the functioning of the hostels and the development works.

State BJP president Sadananda Gowda was present.
