Mangaluru, Nov 11: A mild steel water pipeline burst opened, on Monday, November, 10 late night at Kottara Chowk junction under the fly over resulting in gallons of litres of wasted water.
The mild steel water pipeline had the capacity of transporting 80 MLD/18 million gallon per day.
After getting the information, Sheena Mulya, assistant engineer Mangalore City Corporation said to Daijiworld, “The pipeline was laid in 1971. It was old and repaired many times. As it could not hold the pressure of water flow, it burst opened”.
“The water gate wall in Bendurwell and near Tumbe will remain closed till the problem is sorted out to stop water outburst. Panambur, Surathkal, Bykampaddi, Kodikal, Malemar, Katipalla will not get water supply tomorrow”, he informed.
The pipeline used to carry water from Tumbe dam to Panambur area. Because of the water outburst, in some parts of Kottara, electricity supply was temporally stopped.
Some part of Mangaluru will also likely to be affected by water scarcity on Tuesday, November 11.
Public gathered at the spot and tried to stop the outburst of water flow.
