Udupi, Nov 18: Women’s Helpline Center, Udupi organized a press meet on 18th November at press club Udupi to clarify about the issue of a 21 year woman who was found at the bus stand in a distressed state on November 13 evening.

According to Vasanti Rao Koradkal, the secretary of Mahila Okkuta, the committee could not reveal the confidential matters to media related to sexual harassment on women.

Vasanti said that they have been rendering service since 12 years with the present staff strength of four. The Okkuta has 3 centers in each taluk and so far resolved 2000 cases related to the issues of women.

Vasanti revealed that the woman has said that she came from Tamilnadu to meet her sister at Kunjargiri, Udupi.


Vasathi further said, the woman who is currently under treatment at Udupi hospital, is not in a position to give statement to the police. The woman needs counseling and de-addiction treatment. The concerned department is monitoring the situation and the woman will be sent to Tamilnadu soon after her recovery.

She strongly denied the statement made by Vishu Shetty, a social worker.

Sarala Kanchan, president of Mahila Okkuta was also present.
