Udupi, Dec 5: BJP district president Thingale Vikramarjuna Hegde held a press meet at Udupi city BJP office at Kadiyali, Udupi, on the Gangolli issue on Thursday December 4.

He said that Gangolli being a communally sensitive zone, it will turn into a major issue in the coming days. It will create a fearful environment among Gangolli villagers. He said that the locals are prejudiced against the superintendent of police making the situation worse and out of control.

Hegde questioned why politicians like Oscar Fernandes, Vinay Kumar Sorake, and constituency MLA Gopal Poojary had not visited the spot. He said that if they visit even once, the situation will come under control.

Hegde demanded that the functions of Gangolli police station be shifted to town. “The police should not make arrests in future and no cases must be lodged against those who were arrested in the protest,” he added.

He praised the police department for their complete co-operation in controlling the activists and said that two people had been released on bail on Thursday.

Hegde alleged that ministers including Sorake and other ministers were provoking communal conflicts among people.
