Udupi, Dec 6: The two-day national seminar on ‘Yakrit Vikara’, organized by SDM College
of Ayurveda, Kuthpady, Udupi, Department of AYUSH, Department of Karnataka, Bengaluru, in collaboration with Rajiv Gandhi University of Health Sciences, Bengaluru, was inaugurated on Friday December 5 at Bhavaprakasha Auditorium, Udupi.
District in-charge minister Vinay Kumar Sorake and other chief guests inaugurated the seminar by lighting the lamp. Stalls and exhibition were inaugurated by Dr Veerendra Heggade.
Health and family welfare minister U T Khader said in his address, “Ayurveda system has a history of many years in India. There is a need to enhance the rich heritage of the Ayurveda system by practicing soon after an Ayurvedic education.”
He added that ego should not become a barrier between allopathy and Ayurveda and priority should be given to service over everything else.
M Shantharam Shetty, Pro-Chancellor, Nitte University, said, “Human body is the greatest creation of God. Indians have failed in the research field. There is lack of documentation in hospitals. Having faith in self is very important for the younger generation.”
Dr Heggade, trustee, Shree Kshethra Dharmasthala, in his presidential address, said, “A person will get knowledge through practical experience rather than books. The educational institution has the motto that it helps to build confidence in the Ayurvedic system among public as well as learners.”
He added that they had conducted 800 de-addiction camps. “There were three colleges started in three places like one medical college in Bangalore, Ayurvedic Colleges at Hassan, and Udupi,” added Dr Heggade.
Udupi MLA Pramod Madhwaraj said that, this field should be the first destination, not the last. “Indians are losing Ayurveda due to lack of research and documentation. He urged that Ayurveda concepts should be taught and encouraged in every institution,” he added.
Around 1,000 graduates and post graduates had arrived from different states of the country for the seminar.
B V Prasanna proposed the keynote address. Secretary K R Ramachandra welcomed the gatherings. G Shrinivasa Acharya delivered the vote of thanks. Shobha Bhat and Ravindra Angadi compered the programme.
