Bengaluru, Dec 6: With the increased demand for lands, the State Cabinet on Saturday approved a new land policy for granting land and fixed rates for different communities and purposes.

The State Cabinet meeting approved the land policy for allotment of government lands for specific purposes such as religious maths, educational institutions, industry, agriculture at varied rates for different communities.

Under the new policy, lands would be given for education purposes for Scheduled Caste and Scheduled Tribe communities at the rate of 50 per cent of the guidance value. For other communities, lands would be given at the market value.

In the case of lease, lands would be given to SC/ST at 10 per cent of the guidance value and for others at the rate of 10 per cent of the market value.

Government lands would be given at 25 per cent of the guidance value for SC/ST for religious purposes and 50 per cent of the guidance value for others.

No price would be charged for inter-departmental requirement of lands.

For construction of houses under the Ashraya scheme, lands would be transferred to Rajiv Gandhi Housing Corporation at free of cost for formation of housing sites, Jayachandra said.
