Davangere, Dec 7: A woman police inspector has levelled charges of sexual harassment against eastern range inspector general of police (IGP), Dr S Parashiamurthy, and deputy superintendent of police (DySP), Timmanna. Both the police officers have denied the charges.

The complainant, Arjuman Banu, circle police inspector, said that she had filed a complaint with the superintendent of police (SP), as he happens to be her higher officer, on November 12. She agreed that she had filed complaint after a delay of three months since she had been sexually harassed, as initially she felt it important to protect the honour of her family. She however, opined that the inquiry being conducted by the SP can never be transparent, as he has been conducting it by sitting in the IGP's chamber.

The IGP, addressing a press conference at his office on Saturday December 6, claimed that he and the DySP are innocent. He reasoned that the lady inspector had made these charges as a measure of revenge because she was suspended for furnishing false income certificate.

The IGP explained that about four months back, complaint about the above woman police officer having used fictitious income certificate for the education of her daughter had been received. He said he had deputed the SP to investigate and report. 'The SP, who investigated the allegation, had furnished a detailed report, duly finding her guilty of the charge. On the basis of this report, the officer concerned was suspended,' he explained.

The press conference was attended by DySP, Timmanna, and retired assistant SP, Ravinarayan.
