Mangaluru, Dec 8: "Small issues should not lead to communal unrest. People who spread rumours are enemies of the nation," said district incharge minister B Ramanath Rai, in the wake of communal clashes at Ulaibettu and the subsequent bandh in some areas of Mangaluru.
Addressing a press meet at the district Congress office here on Monday December 8, he appealed to the people to maintain peace and help in restoring normalcy in the city.
"People have to live in harmony and small issues should not lead to communal unrest. Police need to take the right steps to keep peace in society. As district incharge, I request all to live peacefully and not to take law into hands," he said.
Lashing out at law minister D V Sadananda Gowda for commenting on the delay on the part of the Karnataka government in submitting the Kasturirangan report, Rai said, "There was no delay in submitting the report. We are ready but we don’t want to hurt the sentiments of people. Only Kerala has submitted the report but Gujarat, Maharashtra, Tamil Nadu and Goa have not submitted it yet. When the state from which Prime Minister Narendra Modi comes has not submitted the report, then how can they say others have not submitted it? I feel like laughing when I see the knowledge of the minister. I don’t know how Supreme Court is connected with it. We have to submit the report only to the central government. The minister does not know about the common man.
"We are having a detailed discussion and are ready with the report but we will submit it after taking everyone's views. The Kasturirangan committee report has been prepared based on satellite data but the ground reality is different," he added.
Ibrahim Kodijal, the interim president of the district Congress, Mahabala Maarla, mayor, Shashidhar Hegde, former mayor, Mohiuddin Bava, MLA, Mithun Rai, president of district Youth Congress, T K Sudhir and others were present.
