Mangaluru, Dec 8: ‘Kala-Sangam 2014’, a musical and cultural event with a series of competitions, organized by Mangalore Musical and Cultural Association (MMCA) concluded with an award ceremony at Gitanjali, Lower Bendore here on Monday December 8 at 6 pm.
The programme began with invocation.
Variety of competitions such as Bhakti Sudhanjali (patriotic songs - group), Kalaanjali (singing, dance and drama), Vesha Bhooshanjali (fancy dress) and Jananagali (quiz) among others were organized over a past few days and prizes were awarded to the winners on Monday, December 8.
On the occasion of Gitanjali silver jubilee year, Octavia Albuquerque, former MLA and Rajyotsava awardee was conferred with Vishwa Ratna award by Fr Pradeep.
MMCA conferred ‘Vishwa Ratna Award' on Max and Jessie Rasquinha, the 'Kala Ratna Award' (Swarun Smaranjali) was conferred on Supreetha Rao. MMCA’s ‘Nightingale Award’ was also conferred on Layola Martis for her contribution to the enrichment of devotional music. Guardian Angel Award was conferred on Rashma Alva and Usha Kini.
Children from various schools entertained the audience with a colourful cultural programme on the occasion.
Kindergarten first prize was won by St Mary's preparatory school with 930 points, lower primary first prize by St Agnes English higher primary school with 799 points, primary first prize by St Agnes English higher primary school with 1095 points, higher primary first prize to St Agnes English higher primary school with 1484 points and high school first prize was won by Lourdes Central School. They were all given trophies.
Adolph Lobo of MMCA, Vencita Dias and Francina Pereira compered the programme.
