Mangaluru, Dec 9: The National Conference on Paediatric Oncology 2014 will be organised here on December 12 and 13 at the FMMC Decennial Hall.
The announcement was made in a press meet held at 10. 30 am at Press Club, Mangaluru by Sr Winnifred D'Souza, principal, Father Muller College of Nursing. She is also the organising chairperson for the conference.
“Paediatric oncology is a specialized branch wherein care extends beyond physical health to include emotional support and long term follow-up treatment as children mature into adults. Learning best practices, contributing and advancing the field of knowledge of childhood cancers helps children achieve their optimum health and quality of life. Childhood cancer awareness helps to manage day to day needs of children with cancer, guides families through the most difficult circumstances ,” Sr Winnifred D'Souza said in the meet.
"The conference will feature two days of learning through informative breakout sessions and interactive discussions with experts from all over the country. This programme provides an opportunity to all levels of medical and nursing professionals to learn the latest developments in this rapidly expanding and changing field. Further it will enable them to take decisions for their patients to enhance the quality of medical and nursing practices and challenge the next generation of professionals to excel clinically," she added.
Dr M S Vidyasagar, professor, department of radiotherapy and oncology, KMC, Manipal will be the chief guest for the inaugural programme on December 12. Dr Soumitra Shankar Datta, senior consultant psychiatrist, department of palliative care and psycho-oncology, Tata Medical Centre, Kolkata will be the chief guest for the valedictory programme on December 13 at 3.45 pm.
Fr Patrick Rodrigues, Director, Father Muller Charitable institutions will preside over the programme.
Seema S Chavan, organising secretary, Dr Dinesh Shet, medical oncologist, FMMCH, Dr Hasib A G, radiation oncologist, FMMCH and Manoj P S, lecturer, FMCON were present at the press meet.
