Kundapur, Dec 10: The driver and conductor of a private bus accompanied by two passengers allegedly entered a goods truck plying from New Delhi to Mangaluru at Shastri Circle here on Tuesday December 9 morning, and assaulted both the driver and cleaner of the goods lorry.

The truck in question happens to be a multiple axle vehicle with 12 wheels. It belongs to a well-known logistics company. The truck was on its way to Mangaluru with goods that were loaded onto it on Friday. A private bus named 'Someshwara' had come from behind this truck near Herikudru on national highway 66. The bus driver thereafter honked continuously, seeking space to overtake the truck. It is claimed that the truck driver did not make room for the bus to go ahead. The bus driver had made effort to overtake the lorry at Sangam before reaching Shastri Circle, where he tossed a water bottle towards the lorry driver and hurled expletives at him. Having failed in his efforts to to overtake the lorry there, he finally succeeded in overtaking the truck at Shastri Circle, where he blocked the truck by stopping his bus across the truck.

The bus driver and conductor then reportedly entered the lorry and assaulted its driver and cleaner Chandru, besides tearing off their clothes. The locals who tried to stop the assaulters failed to do so, as they were inno mood to listen. Meanwhile the traffic police who were nearby also tried to intervene but the furious bus staff did not relent.

The police took both the vehicles to the police station and obtained complaints from the victims of assault. The driver of the truck, identified as Nagaraja, and cleaner have got themselves admitted into the government hospital here for treatment.

The locals expressed the opinion that the menace of private buses has become a nuisance for road users of late and the bus drivers even ignore policemen and their instructions. If this highhandedness is allowed to be continued, traffic scenario in the region will worsen, they warned. M N Gopal, an eyewitness to the bad behaviour on the part of the bus staff, said that the bus employees were not right in assaulting the staff of the truck. He felt that the police should take strict action against the bus employees for taking law into their hands..

The traffic was in disarray for about half an hour due to the said unexpected incident and also because the bus driver had stopped his bus right in the middle of the road. Local police sub-inspector, Nasir Hussain, and traffic sub-inspector of police, Imran, worked together to ease the congestion and pave way for smooth traffic flow. A long queue of vehicles stranded on the road because of the said incident could be seen to a length of about a kilometre on both sides of Shastri Circle.

Police should take strict action against the bus driver & cleaner and also the passengers who helped them. This is not jungle raj that you do any nonsense on public roads. What about the inconvenience to the passengers who are waiting in the bus to witness all these. Such big trucks may find it difficult to make way to other vehicles at narrow roads with heavy traffic, which should be understood. This is how private buses are responsible for so many accidents. They have no patience.

closing my eyes I can say the driver of the bus is the culprit. It's evident that these bus drivers think they own the road and anybody whom they honk and alert should give away the road for them. It could be competing with other bus, just crazy driving havoc, pressure to maintain the timings... any reason they want each and every other vehicle to respect them and let them go when they horn. How dare they beat the other lorry driver and cleaner. They could have reported to police who were at circle. Also not listening to police shows their attitude and how rude they are. Apply immediate action as per law and order and let him remember the punishment when he honk and overtake another vehicle in future.

Someshwara is a owned by a goons and they are well known for man-handling. At the sametime, it wonders as why cops were also in thier favour. The truck which is a multi-axle is more than 12 mtrs long. From herikudru to Kundapur, it a busy stretch and the private buses inspite of knowing this fact act like assholes. Strict action has to be taken on bus driver, conductor and those who were involved in assualting the truck driver.

It means in Karnataka if front vehicle doesn’t give way for overtake means driver of the vehicle moving behind can beat the front vehicle driver correct????? If you remember well, one year back one such BJP Corporator was badly criticized for beating one such Private Bus Driver for not giving way for overtake!!!! Almost all CONGiss affiliated Bus Owners knee bent to force him to apologize but now I would like to see what these Bus Owners will do?

Public opinion about the bus drivers is absolutely true. They think they own the roads and are beyond law. Over-speeding, abruptly stopping on the middle of the road, forcing the smaller vehicles especially two wheelers off the road in their frenzy of reckless driving, using filthy language loudly to curse whoever attempts to overtake them, harassing students who carry bus passes as this affects their personal income etc are just some of the vulgarities the day to day bus commuters and other users of roads in Mangaluru are forced to put up with. Owners of these busses couldn't care less so long as their daily collection targets are met.

That means all vehicles should stop when private buses are plying the road. What the way of rash driving to overtake. Its all patience required or else other peoples life is in danger of death or permanent injury. Give them very nice treatment in the jail for at least one year. Book them now under FIR. Next time they are caught give them full and final treatment.

The PRIVATE bus DRIVERS drive as if they are the KING OF THE ROADS & all vehicles should make way for them , when they honk. This is a regular problem to all 2 wheeler & 4 Wheelers right From Bhatkal to Kerala Border on the NH66 . The reason behind this is NEXUS between RTO & Pvt Bus Owners. Its HIGH TIME People UNITE & PUT A END to the menace of RECKLESS DRIVING by EXPRESS BUS DRIVERS......A Express BUS IN THIS COASTAL BELT is always a CAUSE for DEATH in WAITING for innocent travellers .

If Police cannot control the bus drivers, then who can? There has to be something more to policemen becoming mute spectators to the atrocities by bus's.
