Mangaluru: Soumya murder case - Convict Satish gets life term till death

Daijiworld Media Network - Mangaluru (SP)

Mangaluru, Dec 10: The sixth additional district and session court, which also happens to be the special court for rape cases, has sentenced Satish, who has been found guilty of attempting rape and murdering Soumya (21) from Kashekody, Balthila village in Bantwal taluk, to jail term till his last breath.

The court, which had pronounced Satish a convict in the above cases on December 2, announced the quantum of sentence on Monday December 9.

Judge of the court, Pushpanjali Devi, also imposed a fine of Rs 30,000 under different sections of Indian Penal Code on the accused. This amount has been ordered to be paid to the family of the victim. The court also has directed Legal Services Authority to disburse maximum eligible compensation to the family of Soumya as per the compensation scheme 2013.

Public prosecutor, Shivaprasad Alva K, in his arguments relating to quantum of sentence, had said that the accused, who is 25 now, may get released after 14 years or earlier if he is awarded life term. He apprehended that the convict, once released, might create problems for the family members of Soumya and other witnesses in the case. He therefore sought life imprisonment till death to Satish.

The judgment related to the rape attempt on Soumya on February 24, 2013. Soumya was dragged away by Satish while she was walking towards home after returning from Udupi, and murdered. Soumya's body was then tossed into a pond by the accused.

Our Judicial system corrected first. Rs.30000/- to her family? Put fine of crores and if he dont pay, no release to him after even his lifetime imprisonment. Now he go to supreme court. Just think about the Dec 16 rape case, anything happened?

Sometimes how mushrooms come up of the ground during rainy season, this kind of cases also comes up and the culprits get proper punishment but most of the cases still hidden. Let's hope all this kind of cases comes to Lime light and Culprits get punishment. But in this case equation is not proper in the sense Death=Death is ok. Do Not give food to these Drakulas life long in Jail and this sheer waste cost of feeding to be borne by the Whole nation I mean all Citizens India.

A convicted rapist should be fined a minimum of 50 lakh which shold be recovered by selling assets owned by him or which he may inherit. For sales tax or Income tax evasion they recover money by this method why not for rapists?.

At last something for a change, quick judgement has been made and the sentence to the accused has been awarded. If the rate of making the justice is improved, I am sure in very short span we shall never have pending cases.

Instead of life sentence till death, it would have appropriate directing death sentence and save jail expenses.
