Mangaluru, Dec 9: A police complaint has been lodged at Mangaluru south police station against a teacher and principal for beating up a 5-year-old boy in school.

The father of the child, Rahmath, and mother Minaz from Kuthar have complained to the police alleging that their son was subjected to corporal punishment.

As per reports, the boy is studying at Kidzee nursery school at Attavar here. He had gone to his grandmother's house in Kankanady. On Monday December 9, Minaz received a phone call saying he had rashes on his leg.

Minaz who went to see the boy realized that those were not rashes but marks of some injury. The boy who kept insisting that he would not go to school the next day, also had fever. After much coaxing, the boy revealed that he was beaten up at the school by the teacher.

As per boy's statement, the teacher and also coordinator of the school, named Latha, hit him with a scale for not knowing the name of a vegetable. The teacher even asked other students to tease the boy for not knowing the right answer to her question, it is alleged.

When the parents approached the school on the above issue, the principal of the school Sukesh Uchil denied the charges. Interestingly the principal is the husband of the teacher who was alleged to have beaten up the boy.

The parents of the boy speaking to daijiworld said that they had to approach the police about the incident as their problem was not addressed by the school management. They said even if the teacher did not admit that the boy was humiliated and physically abused, the CCTV cameras at the school would reveal the truth. They even claimed that other students of the same class have admitted that the boy was subjected to punishment.

The principal of the school has said that 8 CCTV cameras have been installed in the school premises and the police could check them to know the truth.

Police have registered the case under IPC section 324 (voluntarily causing hurt by dangerous weapons or means).

I have a fact to share here with readers!
I have absolutely no respect what so ever for those who thought they were the teachers of those days who physically tortured me on regular basis - my school days! There was one teacher who thrashed me with a stick continuously for two minutes, couple days later I could see the fuss, I was suffering from infection. I was just 15 weighing barely 20kg then. My fault - I was dumb in studies.

Beating by teachers is nothing new. It used to happen in the past as one having authority over students and parents had so say in it. Thank God,things have changed now. It is good learning for the teachers to think twice before they venture into such actions and also high time they realize they are the role model for students who are contributors in shaping students future. I am glad parents are no more silent spectators.

She is a disgrace to teachers! She is a disgrace to her school, her community!!! She is a disgrace to the human race. We trust teachers with our children, she has violated that trust, and has violated this poor kid. Every parent should stand with these parents and protest this school until drastic measures are taken to ensure not another child will ever be subjected to this animal ever again.
Has she became parent if yes if the same thing happens to her kids..

For a child, more than being beaten up (which itself is cruel and unprecedented for KG kid), it is being humiliated in front of his peers that is devastating. in this case, the teacher was particularly inhuman by getting his own classmates to tease him. I wonder how kidzee let a bunch of sadists run their franchise. The best cure for such psychopaths is a stint in the police lockup for a reasonable duration.

Also, I urge wellwishers to write to Kidzee about the inhuman bunch running the franchise, and get their franchise cancelled. If not, kidzee itself can be made culpable for such acts. Let's make the city safe for children

this school is run in a 40x60 constructed house, there is no proper play or walking space inside or out side the premises. children are playing in a small sit-out and watching tv cartoons whole day,
our parents thinks that by joining these type of highly advertised school their children will become scientists in future. no way.
these schools are only meant for making money oriented , mangalore city administration must find out and lock these type schools permanently and take severe actions against the owner and teachers.

The teacher cannot be a good teacher if she looses her anger with a 5 year old child. Counselling must be provided to teachers prior to the admission in school and regular workshops needs to be in place.

    Ahmed,
teacher also is a human being. She may get angry. Do you want to say have never beaten your child? Parents sometimes find it difficult to control their own 2-3 kids and the same parents expect the teacher to control 20-25 students in the class without getting angry.
Don't get confused, I am not saying teachers should beat students but to say (and expect) that teachers should not get angry then it is too much.
for a change, demonstrate to yourself that you will not get angry in the company of 5 children for just one hour. Keeping them occupied (more than teaching at that tender age) is much bigger task my friend.
    try it once.

    Shivappa,

Beating a 5 year old? She is a teacher of small children and she should be the last person to get physical with kids. Iam not talking about 5th standard or 6th standard kids here.

I have kids. Yes i do get angry and irritated. But not to this extent where i can thrash or cane them! Never.

If teacher is human shivappa, so is the kid. Here the teacher beating 5 year old severely demonstrates her evilness than humane!

Where did I say Imran Bava that teacher's beating was right?
I did not comment on this particular incident. I made a general comment.

As far as beating their own children black and blue, I have seen many such incidents helplessly.
I will never think of doing it to such extreme as you have described.
If you don't show your anger / displeasure to your own children (when they are at fault) how do you expect them to learn, on their own or by some divine intervention?

Please go to a community school and take up a job of a teacher for just one day. you will understand what I am taking about.

This a sensitive issue. Yes, agreed teachers need to punish students if required. I am favour for that. I am against the policy where it says teachers can not punish kids. The punishment which our teachers gave us only made us to be a responsible citizens and settle in our life. But in this instance it looks for such a small boy this was too much. Teacher shouldn't have beaten him like this. definitely. In such issues they should alert the parents , call them to school and alert if any issues with the boy. Have it registered in the school and then if iterative issues then escalate to the head master or principal.

It is clear from the incident, the teacher beat the child out of hatred and not with intension of making him good. It is a very common problem in India, I have encountered this first hand when I was a child. My class teacher used to hate one of the boys in our class and would say "handi maamsa tindu bandiddane" in front of all the children. Naturally the boy got ostracized by other children and became dull and dropped out of school before reaching college. Teachers need more awareness about child mentality. And so do many parents who still think 'teacher is beating for good'.

Don't compare old days. Whatever is the reason teacher has no right to beat children. simple as that.
For that matter, even parents do not have the right to beat their own kids
How do we teach them discipline (without beating them) is our problem. There are instances on the complaint of the child (not so far in India) the parents have been sent to behaviour correction centers.
We have been beaten merrily by our teachers every other day. But those days are things of past.

@ Sampath, mangalore,I think you are still in Stone Age,never heard of Computer time.when previously the teacher was beating children and not softly,it was accepted and couldn't go against them because they were afraid of them. Now times are changed and not without reason except parents no one punish children ,not beaten.Thank God.when this Boy has not done anything wrong but not known the Name of vegetable.Thats not reason to beat him.She could have made him to write 100times or repeat it 10times would have enough. There are teachers who dont know themselves how to handle children or sometimes not having self children, react aggressive with others children.May be this was the reason I suppose. The teacher and headmaster should be punished, and compensation is given to the child or parents.Child should be taken away from this School and admit him elsewhere. The child's wound should be treated in Hospital,it may become abscess as it in Picture appears.

@ Rita, I know in which age I am leaving. Nobody needs to remind me. This kind of attitude may take place in your country where they donot respect each other ( Even elders are called in names). But my country country elders are respected.

Secondly my country teachers are respected as God " Guru Devobhava" unlike yours. we respect our culture, tradition. If you are so much concerned then why do you want laws, courts justice police etc, in the country.

Dont you know the saying " Gidavagi Baggadu Maravaaagi Baggithe". If good correction is given then these children will be the good citizens of this country.
Have you notice. The people who are aressted in any crimes all are young stirs. No proper correction was given to them So they now this is the fate.
Howe many instances you want? go to the courts and see and you will get the clear idea.
Or else just read what has happened in Delhi?
the boy may be immature but the teacher is mature one she will definetly know why she has beaten him. tell me was he the only boy in the class to get beatings.

    @ MYB
Sir Identity has nothing to do. So grow up as @Rita said this is the age of computers

@Sampath Bangalore,it has nothing to do with "my Country".I am only living here as a citizen. But India is still my origin and am happy about it.Would you like to see such punishment on your own child or your close ones?and beat punish them over that? The teacher is not allowed even in India to beat to that extent a child .And when children call their parents with Name it is with mutual understanding and not all do that.My children call us and respect us as parents Mama and papa.Teachers are and were Gurus.I am not against it.but against treating students as their sheep to punish them when they have Problem at home Right?dont compare this Country and our Country .

She can join the Indian Police force or NIA team. Nowadays school teachers are becoming criminals. How cruel she is, how can she treat the children like this? Parents should stop sending their children to this school. Latha teacher should be suspended and put her behind the bar for her barbaric act.

if these trivial reasons, like not knowing a vegetable name, would lead to such inhuman acts of beating, I should have got beaten up everyday in school and at home! ... what nonsense is this? why would a kid that young age and his classmates lie? Teachers should earn respect not fear! and kids are the first to give love & respect to such teachers! .... arrest the teacher immediately!
