Mangaluru: Heavy showers soak DK district, disrupt normal life

Daijiworld Media Network - Mangaluru (SP)

Mangaluru, Dec 11: Heavy rain coupled with lightning was experienced in various places in Dakshina Kannada district on the evening of Wednesday December 10. The city too came under the spell of heavy rain since evening late into the night, at times giving rise to a sense of apprehension among the city dwellers because of its intensity.

Rain in Bantwal threw normal life out of gear for about half an hour on Wednesday evening. Puttur and surrounding places also reported heavy rain coupled with lightning on Wednesday evening for over two hours. Landslides were experienced in a couple of rural roads, trees fell across roads thus creating traffic bottlenecks, and power supply was disrupted in various places. Beltangady taluk also got heavy rain coupled with thunder and lightening since Wednesday afternoon.

While the rain brought relief for people who were suffering because of extreme heat, it also brought woes to areca nut and paddy growers in the form of loss of crops. People travelling to far off places were caught off guard on account of rain. Students were also hit by the unexpected rain.

The meteorological department said that rain coupled with thunder and lightning is expected to continue for three more days because of the affect of drop in atmospheric pressure over Arabian sea.

This rain is for the benefit of BJP politicians who hold vast areca nut plantation. They pray for it every year so that they can get easy money as compensation from Government without going through the rigors (watering\plucking\labour\finding buyers etc).
Eshwarappa along with DVS\BSY will be leading the agitation as they have plenty of time inspite of being U\Minister etc.

    Yes Sanjeev,
Not for the rain in December, but for our beautiful coastal Karnataka!
Yes, there are problems, but nature has a way of correction.
I know some people closely, who married to Europeans. Of course the place is very clean, crime rate very low, medical facility earnings and all good.
For some years they were in Air.
But now want to come and settle in India for nobody cares them there, no family life! cost of living, very high!
We should see and live in many places but no place is like native.

Dear Mr. Sanjeev Kamath, Udupi / Bahrain,

Hope you are not an agriculturist.
Raining in November and December curbs yielding of fruits such as Mango, cashew and Jack-fruit, the main produce of the Twin Districts.

    Yield of Pepper also reduces.

I am not knowing about Oranges because it is in the Ghat section.

    Sanjeev Kamath, Udupi / Bahrain...

Hope you are born and brought up in Mangalore and after that, for livelihood gone to Bahrain.

Don't you know that December month is of winter season and for rain?

Now whom to blame for this rain? If at all God has given authority to a man to send rains and stop then by this time that man would have been killed by fellow man by asking how dare you to send rain now? Our crops are all spoiled.. who will bear the loss?. Isn't it?

By looking now a days religion-caste drama's, I will not be surprised if God also comes, man will not think twice to kill him.
