Bhatkal, Dec 11: High voltage of electric power damaged electronic and kitchen accessories like AC, fridge, washing machine, TV, inverter, battery, electric bulbs, chargers and oven, incurring in a loss of 40 lacs at Bhatkal Madina Colony Khalifa Garden area, on Wednesday, December 10.

Sources said that a JCB lorry was passing from Khalifa garden area in the evening. Locals objected to the movement of JCB lorry because the lane was narrow. The driver did not listen to locals and went on and hit the transformer. Because of the impact, the electric pole fell on the ground and there was a power failure in the area.

Soon after getting the information, Bhatkal KEB chief executive, Manjunath, assistant engineer Shivanand, along with his team reached the spot and started the repair work. They had to replace the transformer but they connected the main wire directly to the electric pole and switch on the main power connection. As a result, a high voltage of electric power was reported in Khalifa Garden area destroying all the electronic and kitchen accessories.

The houses belonging to Arfath Askery, Ashfaque Motiya, Muhimeen Peshmam, Tarma Nasir, Saeed and Sayeem were damaged.

Bhatkal Tehsildar Bartker, zilla panchayat member Abdul Rahmeem Shaikhs Bhatkal, former TMC president Inayatullah Shahbandari and rural PSI, Manjunath visited the spot.

A case has been registered at Bhatkal rural police station and people demanded the suspension of officers who acted carelessly without taking into consideration the repercussion of high voltage electric power without the help of transformer. People also gave a list of things lost in the case to Tehsildar.
