Kundapur, Dec 12: Santosh alias Santosh Kumar alias Purushotham (26) from Ripponpet in Shivamogga district and Uday Achar (31), residing near Shanishwara Temple in Hangalur, who were nabbed by a policeteam led by local police sub-inspector, Nassir Hussain, were remanded to 15 days judicial custody on being produced in the court here on Thursday December 11.
Both had been arrested by the police team guided by police circle inspector, P M Diwakar, and working under the directions of superintendent of police, Rajendra Prasad, on Wednesday night.
The two have been accused of breaking into the house of B V Raghavendra residing near Bakkanabail near Kotilingeshwara Temple in
Koteshwar in the afternoon on the day car festival of this temple was in progress. The policemen also discovered that Santosh has been
facing several cases of theft registered in Ripponpet and Thirthahalli police stations.
The police also confiscated from the possession of these persons, gold ornaments worth Rs 2,70,000, a Tata Nano car bearing registration No.
KA 47 M 1922, and two cell phones. They were presented before the judge on the night of Thursday, upon which they were sent to judicial custody.
The jewellery and cash confiscated from the alleged thieves is as follows:
1. Two small gold chains weighing 3 sovereigns
2. One long gold Necklace weighing 3½ sovereigns
3. One Thali gold chain weighing 2 sovereigns
4. One gold dollar weighing half sovereign
5. One gold ring weighing 4 grams
6. One gold coin weighing 4 grams
7. One pair of gold ear rings weighing 5 grams
8. One pair of gold ear rings weighing 1 gram
9. Finger ring weighing 3 grams
10. One pair of ear ring weighing 4 grams
11. One pair of ear ring weighing 3 grams
12. Small neck lace weighing 9 grams
13. One nose ring weighing 1 gram
14. One pair of ear ring weighing 1 gram
15. One Laxmi pendent weighing 4 grams
16. One pair of peacock ear rings weighing 10 grams
17. 2 silver coins valued at Rs 1,000
18. Cash Rs 6,500
The Police Commissioner of Udupi district has congratulated the Police officials and staff who have arrested the suspects within two days of
theft. He has announced awards to Diwaker, circle inspector of Kundapur and team, a cash prize for their achievement.
