Bengaluru, Dec 13: FKCA - Federation of Konkani Catholic Associations successfully conducted Mangalore Maza-2014 for its member associations on December 7, 2014 at St John’s Medical College Sports Complex, Koramangala, Bengaluru. The annual sports meet of the FKCA, this year too as in the past, saw the enthusiastic participation of a large number of Konkani Catholics of Bengaluru and its surroundings.

The mega event began with march past and welcoming the chief guest Roy Castelino – president of Karnataka Konkani Sahithya Academy, for hoisting the FKCA flag. In his inaugural address, Castelino complimented the FKCA for organizing the annual sports and spoke in detail about the relevance of such events, uin building up the spirit of Unity and fraternity among the Konkan Catholics residing in the vicinity of Bengaluru and among the members of FKCA’s affiliate associations, which thereby would contribute effectively for the Konkani Catholic community and for the progress of the society at large. Fr Duming Dias, Associate Director of St John’s Medical College and Hospital, was invited as the guest of honour.





The chairman of the FKCA Victor Edward D’Souza addressed all the member associations gathered and declared the Sports Meet open alongside the chief guest by releasing colourful balloons into the sky. Arun Fernandes, general secretary of the FKCA, proposed the vote of thanks.

Over 30 individual and team events marked the FKCA Mangalore Maza - 2014. Among the team events, Men’s cricket matches tournament saw as many as 11 teams sweating it out to be at the finals, and in the Women’s throw ball league , it was a contest between 9 teams from FKCA’s various member associations.

The six-over-a-side cricket matches, which were held on knock-out basis, resulted in an interesting final contest between KCS – Yeshwanthpur and Sezari - Bommanahalli, in which KCS Yeshwanthpur, bagged the winners trophy whereas Sezari had to settle down for the runners up trophy.

The women’s throwball tournament saw a high voltage and spirited fight between Konkani Samudai-Jayanagar and KON-CAB, in which the yellow cladded Samudai - Jayanagar women finally emerged as the deserving winners and KONCAB were runners up.

Besides these, varieties of solo, couple and group athletic events such as, relay, running races, three legged race, balancing the ball, threading the beads, picking the chocolates, skipping race, couple races and many other events were conducted for the young men and women, the young at heart and for the tiny tots. The participants put in their best efforts to win prizes and bring honors and laurels to their respective associations.

For the fourth year in a row, ‘Sezari’- Bommanahalli, the team in blue, lifted the overall championship trophy at Mangalore-Maza 2014. BKCS Koramangala gave a tough competition to them this time around.

The major events of this memorable day for FKCA and all its member associations, was sponsored by Polo Submersible Pumps-Bengaluru, Aparanji Elite-Bengaluru, Sri Sairam Group-Bengaluru, Sthapana Infra Build Tech Pvt Ltd, Bengaluru and Green Country Developers, Bengaluru.

Dheeraj C Xavier, CEO of Olympic Quest managed the entire event under the able guidance of Norbert D’Sa- sports secretary of FKCA, while Vernon D’Souza compeered the entire event. The entire FKCA executive committee under the able leadership of its chairman Victor Edward D’souza, put in their tireless efforts to make the event a "Big Success".
