Bengaluru, Dec 15: The department of Social Work and the department of Psychology in association with the College of Education and Public Service, Saint Louis University, USA had organized international conference on December 11 and December 12, 2014 at Joseph’s College, Bengaluru. 
 
The inaugural session was a magnificent event with the inspiring keynote address by Professor Dr M G Krishnan, the vice chancellor of Karnataka State Open University.

The conference on ‘Higher education in the 21st Century: Opportunities and Challenges’ was inaugurated by the chief guest, Professor M G Krishnan. He was accompanied by Fr Antony Joseph UG, Vice President, Bangalore Jesuit Education Society, Dr Fr Praveen Martis, Principal, St Joseph’s College and Dr Amrita Chaturvedi, Assistant Professor, Saint Louis University , Professor Kiran Jeevan , HOD, Department of social work and Sr Dr Judy Lewis  , HOD  department of psychology.
 
Professor M G Krishnan delivered the keynote speech and urged the students to take examples from Nobel Laureates Malala Yousafzai and Kailash Satyarthi, and strive towards achieving equal access to education. “All the top most executives in big companies are Indians, especially women, but the sad part is that most of the illiterates and poorest are also from India. The challenge before all of you is to help eradicate illiteracy,” he said.
 
Various paper and poster presentations were presented from across the world during the conference.

The two day conference ended with the inspiring and thought provoking valedictory address of Fr Dr Ambrose Pinto . on behalf of the organizers. Sr Dr Judy Lewis thanked all the visionaries, dreamers, participants and every individuals who contributed their mite for the success of the conference .
