Karkala, Dec 16: Kasturi Rangan Varadhi Horata (KRVH) committee, Hebri zone, held a press meet on Tuesday December 16 at Press Club, Udupi and called for a ‘bandh’ against Kasturi Rangan report on December 17.
Naveen Adyantar said, “Kasturi Rangan report has more demerits than merits. The committee understands that most villagers of Hebri depend on agriculture and plantation. If the report is implemented, farmers will be caught in the impasse. In Hebri, Chara, Belenje, Kuchchuru, Nadpau, and Kabbinale have many factories which come under the range zone. So, it leads to unemployment and causes difficulties to the economic condition of the villagers”.
He claimed that it would curb all over development and the committee demanded the shelving of the report.
“The government can use reserve forest and wild animal zone, which is in these six regions. The people of the Western Ghats have condemned the execution of the report in the densely populated area”, added Adyantar.
He said that Horata Samiti and other like-minded people and organizations will observe an 8-hour bandh in Hebri on Wednesday December 17.
A protest rally will start from Lions Circle, Hebri Bus Stand. Around 35 organizations, owners, and labourers voluntarily agreed to down shutters as a mark of protest.
Bus service on Hebri route will be blocked from 6 am to 6 pm and schools and colleges are expected to declare holidays.
