Muscat, Dec 2: The members and their families of  Mangalorean Catholic Center of the Parish (Sts. Peter and Paul Church – Ruwi) continued the Annual Cricket for the second week. It was indeed a great fun for all the members and enjoyment for those loved cricket as a passion.



MCCP’s Annual Cricket Tournament – second stage was held at the Al Turki Ground in Ghala on 1st December 2006. The excellent arrangements, as usual were made with utmost care to provide full comfort and entertainment to the participants.

The tournament commenced with the opening prayer by well known Konkani activist, writer and general secretary of MCCP, Nirmala Goveas invoking showers of blessings on all the members and the tournament.



The first phase of tournament held for men below 40 years. Jerald Mascarenhas and his team had shown fine skills of cricket game in all levels and won the trophy. Alfred Rodrigues team was the runners up. Man of the match was Vinod Pereira.  Eula Pinto, prominent member of MCCP did the honors of presenting the prizes to the winners.

Second phase of tournament was held for veterans, ie the players of above 40 years. Dolphy Frank’s team bagged the winners trophy in an exciting match and Lawrence Lobo and team were the runners up. Mangaloreans favorite “Dattu” Stanley Fernandes was the Man of the Match.  Mangaloreans had a special privilege to have the presence of Vincent Machado, well known Mangalorean of Muscat and ardent supporter of Konkani Programs, to present the winners trophies.



Organizers made special arrangements for tournament for Children. In this category – Glanston Castelino and team won the trophy and Noel Rasquinha’s team was runners up. Player of the Match was Vivian Monis. Man who made the tournament possible with his tremendous and dedicated efforts and the current sports events coordinator, Jerald Mascarenhas gave away the trophies.
 
The ladies tournament was enjoyed by all the spectators. In a tough and classic match, Hilda Rasquinha’s team won the first place and Nirmala Goveas and her team got the second place.  Well known konkani stage artist and MCCP’s cultural secretary, Flavia D Souza won the Player of the Match trophy. Stanley Fernandes, did the honors of presenting the trophies to the winners.



Vinod Pereira was selected for MCCP Best Player of the Annual Cricket Tournament – 2006 award and MCCP Best Lady Player of the Annual Cricket Tournament – 2006 was won by Ida  Castelino.

Expressing their gratitude, Sports Committee headed by Suraj Rebello, Jerald Mascarenhas, Dolphy Frank, Dolly Gomes, Flavia Menezes and Terryl Saldhana presented mementos the supporters who helped MCCP to successfully organize the tournament; they were Vincent Machado, Eula Pinto, Claud Frank, Melani Tauro, Joachim D’souza, Clarence Pinto, Dilip Correa, Adrian Saldanha, Charles Lobo, Russel D Souza  and Brain Curie (Commentators), Roshan and Imran (Referees), Satish and Ravi (scorers) and Stany J Menezes



The major sponsors of the event are Premier Logistics LLC - Sultanate of Oman and Truckoman LLC - Sultanate of Oman.   Truckoman are the experts in Rig Moves, Cargo Haulage, Freight Forwarding and Vehicle/Equipment rentals in the Middle East.  Oman Telecommunications Company – Omantel are the main sponsors for whole year’s events and programs.

Co-sponsors of the event were Vincent Machado, Oman Foodstuff Co., Oman Oasis and  Khimji Ramdas.

It was a total entertainment for MCCP members and their families.
