Bengaluru: Year 2000 church blasts cases - eight escape gallows

Daijiworld Media Network - Bengaluru (SP)

Bengaluru, Dec 18: Partially reversing the judgment delivered by the special court three years ago relating to setting off blasts in three different churches in the state during year 2000, the high court converted death sentences awarded to eight of the accused into life imprisonments. At the same time, the division bench of the high court chaired by Justice N Kumar and Justice N Rathnakala confirmed the life imprisonments imposed on the other 12 accused.

These persons, who belong to the organization, 'Deendar Anjuman', had made an effort to ignite communal clashes between Hindus and Christians by setting of blasts in churches.

'By attacking churches, the accused tried to destroy the fabric of communal harmony in the society. They also posed serious threat to the unity and integrity of the nation. This was a despicable act executed by perverted criminals to destroy the exalted principles practiced by the country, which has held norms of unity in the midst of diversity high and noble,' the bench observed.

The bench also observed that the pamphlets and books seized from the possession of the defendants have proved that they wanted to spread Islam all over the country and convert India into an Islamic nation. 'They wanted to warn the entire world to accept Prophet Mohammed (PBUH) as the only guide and Guru. The literature confiscated from them also prove that they firmly believed that nine lac believers (Pathans) can invade South India, and then take control of entire India', the bench observed. The bench noted with regret that this plan only depicts the stupidity of these people.

22 persons of the said organization had planted and set off bombs in three churches in the state 14 years back. The special court, which found 20 among them guilty, had awarded death sentence to eight of them, and life term to the other 12, through a judgment delivered on November 11, 2008. Out of them, one had died in bomb blast, while the other died during the hearing of the case. The accused had appealed against the special court's judgment in the high court.

Ijahar Baig, Sayyed Abbas Ali, Muhammed Sharfuddin, Muhammed Khalid Choudhary, Sheikh Hasim Ali, Muhammed Akheel Ahmed, Sayyed Muniruddin Mulla Sayyed and Muhammed Ibrahim are the lucky persons who were spared the noose by the high court.

Atleast Justice is done in terms of Life sentence for Church Blasts.....But what about the complaint against the same for disruption of Peace and creating communal tensions, they should be strictly punished.

Yep these category belongs to fanatics...And I thank law enabling agency for nailing down idiots like deendar and arresting them...But I also request them to apply same mode to more than hundred churches burnt down in orissa or more than twenty churches burnt down in gujarat in 1997 ..or current wave of burning down churches in central indian tribal belts... I thank them for arresting culprits of graham staines but I also request them to apply same mode where hundreds of graham staines in the country are killed(same community dont think it as mine hundreds of graham.staines are from same community) in tribal belts and other part by fanatics...But it doesnt make news...And I want to know howmuch percent of them are prosecuted...

The news is very much partinent for todays times when Modi's team is at the helm of affairs at Delhi.Within six months of his forming the 'true secular govt psuedos hurled all nasty comments against the govt and personal. The reported news is only a tip pf th ice berg and in Mangaluru too these acts happened.Last year at Kaknakandy's St.Alphonsi church.. similar act of vandlisation was proved made by insiders and initially Hindus were blamed. In Chemgudee Masjid act of vandalisation too was insiders to defame Hindus...Similar acts are the easy ways of targetting majority community. It is time that majority community members should remain vigilent and not to be provoked any such acts perpetrated by stooges of govt/communal supporters.
I hope Dear Joseph F Gonsalves will read and reraed this news who always hurls false charges against majority Hindus.Mindset needs to be changed for his own good.Mr.Joseph ,you may say these acts are mere illusion and now understand the reality.Dont try to misguide the people.Happy Christmas.....

I am not sure if the idea was to create rift between Hindus/Christians - a lame way chosen to burn down churches.

The terror(I refuse to name a religion here) ideology is 'hurt those of whom you are afraid'. The terror outfits around the world are afraid of western, Europe nations (for whatever reason), and they equate them with Christianity. So, hurt them(Christians). Since it is not easy to hurt them in their own land (western, Europe), hurt them elsewhere, India, Pak etc.

What many do not realize is "Christianity is not united by religion, but by humanity. In whichever country they are, they are united with the people in that place FIRST". So hurting Christians in India, definitely not the way of getting back at US or Europe.

The same with other fundamentalists in India also. They hate someone else, somewhere else. And they think hurting their RELIGIOUS cousins is a way of getting back.

Poor strategy. Christianity preaches "Love thy neighbor". Not 'Christian' neighbor only.

Well said Ms. Jacinta! We are taught to love they neighbour i.e. to love all human beings around us, irrespective of caste and creed. And that’s why our welfare and humanitarian activities reach beyond borders and man made barriers. Unfortunately these are construed as aimed at gaining conversions.
