Kundapur: Will take stern action against illegal activities: ASP Annamalai

Kundapur, Dec 18: "I will take stern step-by-step action against illegal activities and thereby provide justice to the poor. Matka, the biggest destroyer of families has been dealt with in a right manner in villages. We have already arrested 20 people and warned them. If the same continues, we will have to resort to using stricter actions like opening rowdy sheets," said ASP Annamalai, who also has sub-divisional charge of Kundapur.

Speaking to reporters at the DySP office in Kundapur here on Wednesday December 17, he said, "Police should work in such a way that people should have confidence in them. We will introduce some measures to bring in a sea change in the system within 15 days. We will also speed up the process of working on the pending files."

He further said, "We are organizing interactive sessions with the public so that they have more awareness and knowledge about the law. We will take the people into confidence and make the police more people-friendly. The police should realize the fact that a lot of responsibility is on them to protect the people.

"The biggest victim of the social evils is the poor man. Matka will be contained soon. illicit liquor will stop soon. Pending cases will be given preference," he added.

"Kundapur police station will also be developed as a model police station like Karkala police station. I am aware that a lot of risk is involved in my profession. I am prepared for it. My aim in life is to provide honest service to people," he said.

"The role of the local police station is crucial in maintaining law and order. When the police personnel from the same area are involved, it becomes bit tough for them at times to handle the situation. This issue has been already discussed at a higher level," Annamalai said.

"Only forensic report will reveal more details about the reasons for the fire tragedy in Gangolli," he replied when a question was asked on Gangolli's Jamiya complex fire issue.

Annamalai, the Karkala assistant superintendent of police (ASP) has been also entrusted with the additional charge of Kundapur from November 29.

Annamalai who originally hails from Coimbatore has done BE and MBA. He worked as a mechanical engineer before doing IPS in 2011. He has been praised for his work as Karkala ASP. Under his leadership, Karkala police station evolved into a model station.

BE MBA & in police dept !
We can really expect some good development in police department & reduced crime rate, if such highly educated officers are in police dept. But, sir make sure you don't bow to political power & pressure.

Instead of taking action after crime, pls find out root cause of problem. Good luck.

Praveen, do you think all the people including you, are doing the job given honestly ? Are you jealous about appreciation what Sir Annamalai received from the public. We rarely find someone like him by chance, but unfortunately his service not lived long enough. I wish, he comes back once again to Mangalore with higher position
