The accident happened at 8.30 in the morning, minutes before the school opened on Thursday, December 18, 2014.

Sources said that the bus was overloaded, and there were nearly 40-60 children. The driver of the school bus who lost control,  hit a cement wall on the left side of the road. When the bus toppled, he escaped from the spot.

The locals helped in rescuing the children from the bus and called for the ambulance service. The cries of the parents seeing the misery was unexplainable.

The exact cause of the accident is not yet known. Assistant commisioner Charulatha Somal, Tahasildar Gayathri Nayak and host of officials have visited the place of the accident.

As per the primary reports, the accident would have been fatal if the bus had crossed a distance of further 2 feet from where it finally stopped. It would have plunged into the valley of 50 feet depth otherwise and the causalities would have been severe.

Police are investigating the case.

Until the tragedy hits home, nothing matters. Inside Mangalore City,Omni vehicles,Rickshaws carry more children than vehicle can handle. I have requested Heads of these schools and they did not care a damn. Public only wakes up when their loved one is gone under.

This is heart breaking news..I am more disturbed as I am Old Student of Hmmms..
Safety should be the TOPMOST PRIORITY of schools buses. Children are innocent and cannot anticipate dangers. Drivers have to be taught the rules of safety and be alert at all times especially when they are entrusted with children.I have noticed some of the bus drivers, are very careless.Driver's need to be trained properly on a periodic basis..I pray for quick recovery of the injured students.

Lost control means over speed so my personal request with all school managements to appoint retired drivers only to the school buses so we will avoid such types of young drivers' speed & lost controls in the future. Simultaneously RTO/department issue strict guidelines to school managements for limited children in each buses.

Most of School bus/Van Drivers are underpaid by the schools. so naturally good drivers do not prefer to work in school. The staff that school employs does not have proper knowledge of safety or concern for children. so first the concerned Departments have to check whether proper requisites are met by these so called International/Public/ English medium schools who only charge hefty fees from the students (Some schools are etpion who have good system in the school)

I REQUEST SCHOOL AUTHORITY AND PTA MEMBERS INVESTIGATE THOROUGHLY WHERE THE DRIVER LOST TIME AND HE MAY BE RUSHING TO SCHOOL IN A SPEED BECAUSE THE SCHOOL TIME IS 0830 HOURS. AS PER BELOW MESSAGE THE INCIDENT HAPPENED AT 0830 HOURS. THE INCIDENT WAS HAPPENED BECAUSE OF SPEEDY DRIVE. CANCEL HIS DRIVING LICENCE, HE DO NOT HAVE HUMANITY IN HIS MIND THAT IS THE REASON HE ESCAPED FROM THE SPOT WITHOUT DOING ANY HELP TO THE POOR CHILDREN.

It is the fate, no one can escape the timing ....Pray for the speedy recovery of the students...
Still, the management, driver and Parents are also responsible for such things....management is interested in making money, drivers are rash & arrogant, Parents never complain the overloading in the buses and they are also looking for savings and economical transport.....The funny thing is that the driver has escaped ( it must be with the support of the locals ) This is how we discharge our duties and we call ourselves as patriots.....
