Kundapur, Dec 18: “The Khaki clothes worn by the Police is a symbol of sacrifice and service. The Police department should bridge gaps instead of constructing barriers”, said Udupi District Police Commissioner Dr Rajendra Prasad.
He was speaking after distributing certificates to successful programme participants in a Civilian gun training programme held as part of Crime prevention month at East West Club at Koni road here on Monday, December 15.
“The gun is being used by the Police only during inevitable moments in order to maintain law and order. Police are suitably trained to prevent inconvenience to innocent people. However it is a challenging task to train civilians to use guns. As they have gun license, the department intends that it should not be misused”.
“As per Indian Penal Code Chapter 4, there is permission to use licensed weapons. Their use is allowed only during instances of rape or robbery to prevent loss of life. When such incidents occur, there should be factors in the incidence to convince the court that the use of such weapons was inevitable. There is no scope of using the weapons as one likes”, he added.
He continued to say that 1.5 lac people lose their lives in road accidents. “Such incidents occur as there is no awareness among people. If a person dies in the accident due to negligence, intoxication or neglect of law, a family will be on the streets. The youth continuously violate traffic laws. The paltry fines for violations, is partly responsible for it. The parents provide luxuries beyond the needs of their children, misleading them” he said.
Kundapur sub division ASP Annamalai who was the Chief guest in the programme said that we can reach any goal by continuous practice and training. “The parents should guide their children to reach their goal from their young age. A shooting club in Kundapur will enable introduction of talents on national and international level”. He also said that interested people should think positively about it.
Udupi district additional Commissioner Santhosh Kumar, Kundapur revenue sub division assistant commissioner Charulatha Somal, Taluk Bharath scouts president Ganesh Shetty Molahalli, Fr Sebastian and businessman Wilson were present.
Programme participants advocate Shalet Fernandes and M Ganesh shared their opinions. The police department distributed certificates to 28 participants who successfully completed the gun training.
District Reserve Police commissioner Umesh, SI Nasir Hussain, Imran, staff Umesh and Pravin were felicitated. Kundapur Circle Inspector Diwaker P M welcomed. District Home Guards second in commandent Rajesh K C compered the programme. Fr Sebastian proposed Vote of thanks.
