Mangaluru: Beach festival to be held from Christmas Eve to New Year's Day

As part of the Karavali Utsav-2014, Beach Festival will be organised from December 24, 2014 to January 1, 2015 at Panambur Beach, Mangaluru.

Addressing the media in Mangaluru in a unique press meet held in a moving boat on Friday December 19, Dr Ashok D R, the assistant commissioner, Mangaluru and working president of Beach Festival Committee said that the Beach Festival is organised to attract the present generation and to give more opportunities to the youth.

"Beach festival and food festival will be inaugurated on Wednesday,December 24 and along with the inauguration, 'Team Mangalore' will exhibit kite flying. Later there will be dance competition and cultural programme by Gujarati team," Dr Ashok said.

"A singing competition will be organised on December 25. Another attraction will be the food festival with the mouth watering dishes from Kerala, Gujarat, Uttara Kannada, Malnad and the coastal district," he added.

Yathish Baikampady, member of the Beach Utsav Committee said that along with food festival, cultural troupes of Kala Mandalam in Kerala and Gujarat will also present few cultural programmes and on December 26, 27 and 28, cultural troupes of Kala Mandalam will take over the stage and various other events will be held.

"Apart from this, there will also be beach volleyball, cricket, throwball, kabaddi, sand art, kite flying and other competitions for men and women to enthrall the visitors. On December 31, there will be music concert from JDL Band. JDL band members are Lavita Lobo, Daryl and Jason and from Mangaluru," he added.


Sports and Games

December 25 - Beach cricket matches
December 27- Beach volleyball matches for men and women
December 28 - Skating competition for school kids and various other sports are organised.

During the beach festival, cruise facility will be available on Gurpur river, with starting point of at Sultan Battery. For registration contact Charan on 9845608119.

Udayaraga, Yoga and Naturopathy camps will be held at Panambur beach on all days. The Beach Festival Committee has requested the people to avail the facilities.

Audition for the singing competition and dance festival will be held on December 21 at Canara Girls High School, Dongerkery from 8.30 am onwards.

'Karavali Utsav-2014' will be held from December 23 to January 1 in the city. It will commence with a grand procession from AB Shetty Circle to Karavali Utsav ground from 3 pm. Veteran Litterateur, theatre artiste, film director Sadananda Suvarna will be inaugurating the procession. District in-charge minister B Ramanath Rai will inaugurate the Karavali Utsav and exhibition, said deputy commissioner A B Ibrahim.

He was addressing the press meet at the deputy commissioner's office here on Friday December 19.

The district administration is all set to unfold the culture of the coastal district featuring culture,food,music and exhibition through this event.

As part of the Karavali Utsav there will be Beach Utsav and Food Festival at Panambur beach from December 24 to January 1. State-level artistes will take part in the cultural programme.

This time the festival will be held in two places, that is at Kadri Park and at Karavali Utsav grounds from December 24 to January 1.

The district administration has also planned state-level flood light kabbadi competition for men and women on December 31 and January 1 at Nehru Maidan and a quiz competition for school children at Canara High School.

There will also be a photography and documentary competition.
