Bantwal, Dec 20: The police are on the lookout for a man accused of killing his father-in-law.

Qasim (32) from Adkarpadpu-Badiyar near here has been absconding ever since the crime took place over a month ago.

The police have requested people having any information about Qasim to contact office of the police circle inspector here.

Yakub (55) from Dasakody Kallaje in Kadeshivalya village was murdered at around 3 am on November 12 this year. When Yakub was in deep sleep, he was killed by dropping a upper half of a stone wet grinder on his head.

Qasim had married Jameela, daughter of Yakub. However, because of unending disputes with her husband and other members of his family, and also because of mental and physical harassment she faced from Qasim, Jameela had returned to her parents. Qasim had gone wild at this development. He was planning to kill Jameela, the police say.

Per chance, on the day Qasim came to Dasakody Kallaje to murder Jameela, she had gone to the house of a close relative for staying there overnight. The police, based on circumstantial evidence and details gathered during investigation, suspected that Qasim had entered the kitchen of Yakub's home, and dropped the grinder stone on the head of his father-in-law, who was sleeping in the outer veranda of the house.

Jameela had also told the police that her husband had threatened to kill her father. On account of sound created when the grinding stone was dropped, members of the family, who were sleeping inside, had come running out. They had noticed the physical features of a man who was running away at the time.

The police of Bantwal rural station, who had registered the case, are continuing with the investigation of the above case.
