Hassan, Dec 21: A meeting convened on Friday December 19 at Sakleshpur in the district has decided to intensify stir against the implementation of proposed Yettinahole project which envisages diversion of water flowing in the rivulet to some districts located on the other side of the Western Ghats.

A decision was taken to form taluk level committees and appoint taluk level conveners to take the protest forward. Several thinkers, locals, representatives of organizations, etc spoke about the adverse impact of Yettinahole project on the ecology in Western Ghats, and called for unequivocally opposing this project.

The meeting decided to appoint 17 conveners, organize meetings and conduct door-to-door visits in the six villages of the taluk which will be affected by the project for spreading awareness, holding protests in front of the office of the sub-divisional officers warning the officials not to begin any works related to the project without holding meeting of villagers for exchange of views and obtaining their consent, setting up of banners calling upon officials to hold village-level meetings to discuss the project, etc.

Malnad Janapara Horata Samiti president, Kishore Kumar, revealed that irrigation minister, M B Patil, has promised to visit the taluk in a couple of days for holding discussions and exchanging information and views on pros and cons of this project.
