Kasargod: Villagers catch bison by its horns

Kasargod, Dec 22: A bison that was giving sleepless nights to villagers of Kumble, Perla and Kidoor has been finally caught.

Bison is known for its might. It can create terror instantly when it sees human beings, especially when in a group. It is not easy to catch or contain the bison. Traditionally killing the animal is the only solution to stop its violent activities.

But the villagers here have caught it by using a simple method as if they were catching a tiny animal. They used only a rope in the operation.

The villagers of Kidoor got together in large numbers and stayed awake to catch the bison. When the bison appeared, they started chasing the animal with the rope in hand. It took them a few minutes to end the run of the bison. They managed to catch hold of the bison by throwing the rope on to its horns.

The forest officials who were not responding to the demands of the villagers to contain the bison came to the spot after the bison was caught.

It is said that the bison was allowed to move into the Perla Maniampare forest to breathe ‘fresh air’ again.

See some points I would like to clarify.
    1. It's a very brave thing done by the villagers. It was a dangerous task.
    2. Deepa Madam has caught the point very well. See her 'dictionary point' also. Taking 'bull by the horns'...Every husband does that .
Sometime back it was after 1 year after marriage. Now he has learn to take the 'Bull by it's horns' within a week. Is it not?Ask the new 'groom'.
    3. Now where is 'PETA' and all that?Remember that Boppa who sat in a cage? How will they help in such cases? They will say even touching 'horns' is cruelty...Now what must villagers catch of the Bison's to capture it without hurting? Debatable point-Is it not? Ask Boppa...Which organ to catch of the Bison?
    Please go through Deepa Madam's
comment and point again. Know what catching 'Bull by it's horns' really means o.k.?

    Comments are immature,childish....
    Wild Life are extremely threatened
& on the periphery of extinction.
Humans population is increasing rapidly every year, resulting in forests cover being depleted.
There will not be any animals left, our grand children will only view them in our text books.
We all are aware of the terrible effects on environment, climatic changes,it will herald in untold miseries, suffering, destruction, for all living creatures......

    H. Almeida,
One thing is sure. In mangalore the competition in future will be between human beings and Stray dogs. Both population is increasing rapidly.

I think you are all missing the point. The dictionary meaning of 'take the bull by its horns' is 'to do something difficult in a determined and confident way' or 'to confront a problem head-on and deal with it'... i feel its in that sense the caption is used here...as the forest officials didnt respond, the villagers themselves caught the bison
